The British Indoor Rowing Championship is the world's biggest indoor rowing race and the largest indoor sporting event in the UK, with over 2,000 competitors racing at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham over the course of just one day. It takes place in a high-octane environment with races going on throughout the day where competitors race up to 2,000m in the quickest possible time, and it provides a stage for indoor rowing enthusiasts to test themselves on a national level and assess their own performance and progress.

The championship also attracts sporting legends and stars, and over the years has become an integral part of the training and selection programmes for both the Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race crews, and the British rowing squad. The dynamic of having sporting heroes such as Sir Steve Redgrave competing alongside promising youth athletes and indoor rowing enthusiasts has created a compelling environment for the competitor and spectator alike.

Not for the first time, the event once again attracted Eric Kent - a member of Oakhill Academy and a huge rowing enthusiast.  Prior to starting his training Eric sought advice on increasing power/strength through weight training from Phil Moss – Oakhill Academy’s  Health & Fitness Manager. What Phil didn’t know at the time, is that Eric’s infectious enthusiasm would result in Phil himself taking part in the competition!!

Eric and Phil both took part in the 2K event achieving the following times:

Eric Kent:  7:08.5

Phil Moss:  7:08.8

….and it doesn’t end there… Eric and Phil are now registered to take part in the English Rowing Championships taking place at the Manchester Velodrome on 21^st February 2009 so you can expect to find them working hard towards their sub 7 time at Oakhill Academy’s Fitness Centre…
